If you’re reading this it means you run a business.

This is weird behaviour. Most people are content working for a boss.

I was talking to a mentor about this.

He told me this story:

Almost 20 years ago when he first started out, some guy asked him...

"I don’t get it. You’re not making that much money, so why run your own business? Why not just go work for a boss?"

This was a while back and his business wasn't doing that well at the time.

To be completely honest with you, he said he was broke as a joke and that very same question had come to his mind as well.

Why do I do this? Why not just go work for a boss?

He couldn't really give the guy a solid answer.

If you have a great answer to this question:

“Why work for yourself instead of a boss, assuming you’d make similar money?” - let me know. It's always interesting talking to other business owners.

Best thing he managed to come up with?

You and I are just built different.

People who enjoy working for a company and getting paid a salary are on one side of the fence.

You and I are on the other side of the fence.

And neither of us wants to switch sides.

It’s all good.

You have to be a little bit different to start a business, run a business, go through the entire adventure from start to (eventual...) finish.

Running a business isn't easy, but we still do it day in and day out.

If you have a business and you're fighting through all the good, the bad and all the other nonsense that it brings… I salute you!

P.S. My mentor checked up on the guy that asked him that question.

He ended up working for a stockbroker agency. They went bankrupt during the mortgage crisis in 2008. He doesn't know if he was still working there but he remembered him when it happened. And he thought to himself: “there goes your fabled job security”.

Petty? Probably.

But he regrets nothing!
