I really like working with smart, excited and motivated people.
It’s a great experience.
I really, really, reaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy dislike working with slow, lazy, unmotivated, incompetent people.
Could be staff, could be vendors, could be clients.
I just have very little patience for incompetence.
And here’s the weird thing.
You can ALWAYS spot incompetence early on.
Looking back, you always know which client is going to be a hassle.
You always know which vendor is not going to come through.
You always know which business partner has your back… and which would sell you out in a heartbeat.
You always know, but instead of acting on that feeling?
You give them the benefit of the doubt.
Again.
And again.
And again...
Until they start acting up and then you look back and realise:
"I should have known."
Every. Single. Time.
Why am I telling you this?
A prospect approached us to do some marketing.
Looked good on paper. A good lead.
So we followed up to find time for a call. Match calendars. You know the drill.
The guy ghosts us.
Just completely disappears.
Like Batman when he’s done talking to Jim Gordon.
Comes back after two days and says:
“You know what? I’m a really busy man. How about you send me a proposal through email and I’ll look it over when I have time.”
...
Marketing is important. Sales is important. Getting more clients IS important.
So if you don’t have time for any of that and we’re not even in a client/marketer relationship yet… you definitely won't have time for it when we’re actually working together.
If you work with someone, you’re supposed to actually help them.
They need to be motivated AND you need to be motivated.
When I started disqualifying unmotivated clients, vendors and staff… my whole life became way smoother.
Less stress.
Less annoying occurrences.
Less nonsense in general.
Consider doing the same!
